✧ BIO ✧

A young woman with curly hair sitting outdoors, playing an acoustic guitar. She's wearing a navy sweater and has a thoughtful expression.

Marisa’s music brings soul to the sentiment, and resonates to others in a rippling affect. A youthful heart, with an old soul attached.

She acquires an Americana style of her own; possessing powerful and sparkling vocals, including a soft soprano. With roots in rock, blues, country and oldie genres, Marisa showcases versatility as an artist in spades. Influences include artists such as: The Eagles, Patsy Cline, & Blues Traveler. She doesn’t wear one type of hat, she says, “the music dictates what I express, not a branding image”. Her songs will take you on a heartfelt journey, through ups and downs; similar to the backroads of the Midwest she grew up on. As she stated, “Each song takes on a life of its own … some phrases are forthcoming and deep, while others are lighthearted and made in tongue-and-cheek. The story is the foundation of the lyrics, yet people take numerous lines to heart for different reasons. That’s the beauty of songwriting. One line can express multiple sentiments - visuals, thoughts, or emotions - and hit home with various people. We all have a heart and soul. People come from different walks of life, but music captures the tones we all face in trials and triumphs. It’s unifying.”. Marisa possesses the distinctive ability to capture and captivate her audience as a musician.

The story starts way back into early childhood. Though a toddler humming and chewing her food wasn’t the most appetizing dinner show, her parents noticed a musical persistence that she carried with her wherever she went. She grew out of the humming phase (somewhat) and enjoyed dance and theatre as a little girl, eventually finding her way to instrumentation. Marisa began taking piano lessons in 4th grade, and the keys became her outlet. Being the odd and bubbly girl in grade school had its struggles, but she made it through - thanks to her little sisters. Eventually she picked up the guitar in 7th grade; this is when songwriting began to blossom, her writing commenced. (“So Done) The clouds continued to roll in through high school, nevertheless, her sensitivities through the storm became her writing fuel. (“Passing Cars” & “Mixed Signals) She was lost, then found. As she grew closer to God, life began to bloom in more ways than she deemed possible. (Misty Blue) She worked two jobs at a women’s clothing store and a coffee shop, her driven nature helped her climb up the workforce ladder. (“Sippin’ On A Soda” & “Caffeine Rush”) Even so, weekends were booked with music shows - she couldn’t let go of that entirely - even if it led to sleep deprivation. She became a supervisor before the age of 21, but found a crossroads laid out before her. Either continue to work and survive, or pursue music and live - and here she is. While continuing to make ends meet as a young adult, she has poured herself into the passion and gift that God gave her. There were plenty of struggles and scary moments, but she held the pen - wrote, sang, and continued on. (Praire”) The trials and tribulations became her superpower through songs, every line dripping with visuals of the times had, reflections made, and hints of deeper realizations shared.

Marisa is, and always has been, one of a kind -  in an extraordinary way. “There’s so many to thank.”, she says. “Even an ‘independent’ artist needs support. And thank God, I’ve been blessed enough in this lifetime to have loved ones, family and friends, that have poured love and encouragement into me when needed most. Without them, I don’t know where I’d be.
