TRACK #1
[CHORUS]
Mixed Signals when we mingle through the daytime.
We’d act like nothing is special, onward, as our head-beams light.
Not so simple, some lines dwindle, as we pass by more ties.
Well, here comes a rise - so maybe in time - we’ll be just fine.
[VERSE]
Separate tracks we’ve both traveled, only to find
Conducting those rail lines, won’t alter our routes
If we stick to those rusty signs.
So let’s change course - maybe head to shore or to the mountainside -
This all sounds cliche, meanwhile not hearsay, so let’s be on our way.
[CHORUS]
Mixed Signals when we mingle in the moonlight.
We’re both actin’ like nothing is special, onward, as lightnin’ bolts strike.
Not so simple, some lines dwindle, as we pass by more ties.
Well, here comes a rise - so maybe in time - we’ll be just fine.
[BRIDGE]
Even if nothing comes of this, with whatever - whatever - this is.
I’ll be the first, first, to admit: oh I did, I took part in …
[CHORUS]
Those Mixed Signals, those we mingled, through our timeline.
I’d act like nothing is special - onward, to the next new sight.
Not so simple, some lines dwindled, as we passed by more ties.
Well, there was a rise - yet I missed the prize - hope there’ll be more time.
Oh ohh
[CHORUS]
Halt those mixed signals, those we mingled, toward the end of the line.
A caboose ride with our derailed pride - it held with all might!
Not so simple, some lines dwindled, as we passed by more ties.
Well, here comes a rise - better luck next time - we’ll be just fine.
Oh ohh, we’ll be just fine, oh we’ll be just fine.

MIXED SIGNALS
Year Written: 2020 (19 y/o)
“One summer night, I was walking up and down my Grandpa’s long gravel drive-way. On the other side of his field there’s a train track. While walking, I was attempting to clear my mind, and trying to make sense out of some confusing turmoil dealt with at the time - deciphering a bunch of “mixed signals”. A train rolled by, ch-ch-ch-ch-ch-ch-ch, and the rhythm of the train was a beat that got stuck in my head. I started humming and singing along to it while the sun set in the sky. After I arrived back home, grabbed a piece of notebook paper and sat at the piano. This song was written in one night. As a railroad man’s daughter, having a song inspired by a train was only fitting.”

TRACK #2
[VERSE]
I thought maybe that was it, no more little fantasies,
Turns out I’m right - just not in the way I dreamed.
So I’m putting my foot down, at least for today,
I’m not trippin’, fallin’ - runnin’ towards something
not meant for me. No, I won’t fall over him again.
[CHORUS]
‘Cause I’m so done with love.
Oh, it all just tears me up-
and I fall apart... No, no, no, no!
I’m not who you want. No, I never was.
La, la, la, nah. La, la, la, nah.
La, la, la, nah, nah, nah , no -
[VERSE]
So, you go your way, and I’ll go mine.
Then maybe someday - in good time - you’ll come around,
After you blatantly realize. Yes, I was that girl you were looking for,
And, no, it wasn’t just attraction, there was so much more;
But you were scared, and was unsure.
So you call to say you want my love “after all”, but I won’t reply
to your too-late monologue.
[CHORUS]
‘Cause I’m so done with love.
Oh, it all just tears me up-
and I fall apart... No, no, no, no!
I’m not who you want. No, I never was…
La, la, la, nah. La, la, la, nah.
La, la, la, nah, nah, nah , no, no, no no!
[OUTRO]
It all tore me up, and I fell apart…
No, no, no no! I’m not who you want,
No, I never was. And I’m not who I was…
No, I grew up.

SO DONE
Year Written: 2014 (13 y/o)
“This song is the epitome of ‘teenage-angst’. I was just learning guitar at the time, and beginning to write songs in the seventh grade after school. It’s funny how one song written so many years ago can still hit home, but for multiple situations. Though it was originally written as a broken “love” song, the sentiment of letting go has rang true for all sort of experiences. Saying good bye to a friend, leaving a job, moving out, etc. Sometimes there’s a need to release for your own well-being, or on the flip side, due to bad timing. The choice can look you straight in the face, but it doesn’t make doing it any easier. Then there’s the fabricated reckonings- the wondering thereafter. Will anyone regret it with ‘what if’s and ‘could’ve been’s? Sometimes we never know… life’s complicated. My teenage years, like for many, was a wake-up call to how harsh life’s circumstances can really be.”

TRACK #3
[VERSE]
I’m gonna build a little house out in the wild.
Live a simple life, with troubles mild.
Somewhere with a lake or creek, where the headlines
cease to age me. Well, not really.
Had a promising fling, was it last spring?
Those hills seemed to sing; his words were awfully sweet.
But fall’s colors changed and cold came to old Brown County.
[CHORUS]
Hun’, I’mma beggin’ your pardon,
Give me a good warning before,
you come prancing onto the scene.
Please, don’t you see?
It’s not easy to keep playing make-believe,
Pretending all is calm … on the prairie.
[VERSE]
I’m gonna rent a little room beneath the royal suites.
Work all day, scraps for saving - some stairs in between
the world’s chaos and my belongings- And “WW3”.
Took a guitar to the bar, it didn’t go very far.
Sang a brand new song and it fell apart, tipped with smoke & change,
enough for a second-hand jacket - ripped out pockets.
[BRIDGE]
Ooo
Looking towards the horizon…
Ohh, ooo,
Close your eyes and you’ll miss it…
[VERSE]
I’m gonna make a little tent out in the street.
Maybe find a job and a bite to eat,
or some kinder folks who give out to the needy, If they see me.
Found a covered bridge, does it have lighting?
My jacket’s off with a thief - he’s in love with chasing.
Using a trash bag now, one a sales-clerk sold me.
[CHORUS]
Life, I’mma beggin’ your pardon, next time, give me a good warning,
Before you take it all - and leave me nothing.
Please, don’t you see?
It’s not easy to keep playing make-believe.
Some wolves out here crawl in sheep’s clothing.
Oh, no, not all is calm … on the prairie.

PRAIRIE
Year Written: 2025 (24 y/o)
“This past year, I had a lot of life changes happen. While juggling new situations on top of a hectic schedule, it felt like life was - well - ‘wild’. That’s the thing, life’s like a wild-west out there; the terrain has highs and lows that we all face. Yet our stories contrast, and not one person’s walk is exactly the same as another. The verses in this song are not solely inspired by my own experience, but of people I’ve witnessed along the way. The beginning verse reflects the whimsical dreams of the future, the middle states the reality of just getting-by within chaos, and the end expresses being lost with hardly anything left. The last chord of the song is an open minor chord for a reason. Many times, life is open-ended. I wanted the ending of this song to also reflect that. Whether the individual reached the high again at the beginning, or lingers at the low of the last verse, is up to the interpreter.”

TRACK #4
[VERSE]
Another day of retail, life’s slowly going uphill,
Won’t go into detail - it’s a field full of thrills.
Greet all those who walk in, taking orders, answer questions,
Clean-up the premise, and do all this while still smiling.
[PRE-CHORUS]
That’s the story here every week.
Early mornings, to late evenings.
But every now and then I get a thirty-minute vacation…
[CHORUS]
I’m in the the break-room, Sippin’ on a soda,
While outside the shop blows up -
Who knows what’s really going on in this world?
Tasking and people-pleasing, wishin’ folks found some reason.
But that’s all out of season, if you wear pearls!
Oh, look, I just got another bad reaction. Oh, oh
From a girl with a declined card transaction. Oh, oh
I wish that it were Sunday, that way we could close early!
It’s another day for another dollar, ‘cause there’s a bill to pay -
“A day in the life” of a retail worker.
[CHORUS]
Sippin’ on a soda, sippin’ on a soda,
Who knows what’s really going on in this world?
Tasking and people pleasing… but that’s all out of season.
Wah, wah, wah. Oh, look, I just got another bad reaction. Oh, oh
From a boy with a declined card transaction. Oh, oh
I wish that it were Sunday, that way we could close early!
It’s another day for another dollar, ‘cause there’s a bill to pay -
“A day in the life” of a retail worker… “A day in the life” of a retail worker.
[OUTRO]
Sippin’ on a soda, sippin’ on a soda,
Sippin’ on a soda, sippin’ on a soda,
Sippin’ on a soda, sippin’ on a soda…
Sorry, we’re closed!

SIPPIN’ ON A SODA
Year Written: 2019 (18 y/o)
“Wrote this song near the end of high school, back in 2019. A LOT was going on that year. The world was in a panic over Covid, and customer service workers, including yours truly, faced the daily frenzy of people's turmoil due to the unknown state of the world. Whether there’s an epidemic going on or not, there are good and bad customers you work with in retail- that’s just a part of the territory. So back then, I wrote the chorus during a lunchbreak in the backroom of a womens clothing store. The tune was written in jest while trying to get through a rough shift. One night a few years later, I found the written chorus within my notes. Finished the remaining verses thereafter, since I couldn’t sleep that night. I grew up around customer service due to my mother being a small-business owner. Anyone who has ever worked retail could relate to the verses in some form, even if the tune was kinda corny itself.”

TRACK #5
[CHORUS]
Foggy grey turned misty blue, after you left me.
And now I see the light in your place, and it’s calling my name.
Thought it was cloudy confusion that surrounded the space,
Turns out it was your own confining placement to blame!
Foggy grey, turned misty blue.
[VERSE]
Those foggy grey skies did a lot to my mind. Ohh
But now I see the vibrant sky ahead, so all is better left unsaid.
Well, I had drowned in my sorrow, was left there for dead,
Until the clear sun/Son started shining up head.
Foggy grey, turned misty blue. Woahhh!
[VERSE]
The foggy grey didn’t want to go away. Oh no…
Oh, well. It just kept on rushing onto the bay, movin’ my way.
But then I was washed by the water, blind and now see,
The reflections are all clear now and very dear to me.
Foggy grey, turned misty blue. Woahh!
[BRIDGE]
Once you were out of the way, so did the grey fade.
Thank the Lord for brighter days far from where I laid!
And now the breeze is cool, surroundings are anew…
Well I’m, breathing in the dew and out what I once knew …
[CHORUS]
Foggy grey turned misty blue, after you left me.
And I have left the past alone too, so much more I gotta do!
There’s so much more to pursue.
I said, “the foggy grey, the foggy grey, foggy grey turned misty blue”
Ooooo
Foggy grey turned misty blue.

MISTY BLUE
Year Written: 2022 (21 y/o)
“One morning, I was walking around the reservoir at my Liberty Park, a park in my hometown. The fog above the water faded up into the blue sky, and I thought it was a simple but profound visual of a reoccurring sentiment. There are many trials in our lives that cloud our vision. But, if you keep walking, and wait for the sun to rise, the fog eventually fades away. Then, you’re able to see the beauty all around you. Including the sparkling water in light of a new day. And by having persevered through the fog, we learn lessons and gain strength. And tend to find that facing those trials was ‘all for the best’ in retrospect. By the time my walk that day had ended, I had the melody and a few lines in mind for the song. A few weeks later, I was sitting at the bar inside of The Slippery Noodle (Indianapolis, IN). I wrote the rest of the verses during that sitting. Faith is very important to me. While writing this, I thought the sun was a great metaphor for the “Son” of God. (Hope is one of His many specialties!) And my hope is that this song, in some way, helps someone walking through a foggy situation too.”

TRACK #5
[VERSE]
A cool eastern wind is pulling me,
Crossing over George Street, you’ll see steam.
It’s dripping down the glass, warm lighting with some heat.
Walking in, I see them all retreat.
Some went in line, some took a seat,
Staring into their mugs, or a dark screen. I…
Waited my turn. Guess I should’ve learned before he spoke, and said,
[CHORUS]
“Hello! Welcome to this spot. Darling, whatcha gonna order?
Would you like it smoking hot, or just cold enough?”
And I expressed, “No, I’m fine, you see -
just travelin’ around with my tambourine.
I’ll just take a little drink, and then I gotta leave.”
‘Cause you see, my mind’s been soaked in a bag,
And my heart’s been ground up - poured into their glass.
Looked into those eyes… ooo, no, no, no.
It’d be a thrill or a chill, oh, it’s just the caffeine rush.
[VERSE]
Your tone will be a’flowin’ through the vine-ine,
Oh, you’re yearning for what’s all featured, with “me”, “my” & “mine”s.
You look then you blink, when you turn then you’ll see -
Oh, you’re wondering all those undue silly things!
Oh, oh, and some are present, some detached -
What else is there even to add?
Gotta leave for the show, wishin’ I didn’t meet the bloke.
Before he spoke, and said,
[CHORUS]
“Welcome back to the spot! Darling, are you willing to order
From your freedom’s cost, or the doomed avalanche?”
And I expressed, “No, I’m fine you see -
Just traveling around, what will be, will be! You know,
I’ll take a stronger drink, then I gotta leave.” Cause you see …
[BRIDGE]
Oh, I’m empty. Nothing’s left in this gypsy’s heart.
Oh no, cause she’s addicted to spillin’ on the spot.
[OUTRO]
Cause you see, her mind’s been soaked in a bag,
And her heart’s been grounded up, poured into their glass!
Looked into those eyes, ooooo, no, no, no,
It’d been a thrill or a chill… a thrill or a chill -
Maybe, just a splash of half & half? A thrill or a chill….
Oooo, no, no, no, it was just the caffeine rush.

CAFFEINE RUSH
Year Written: 2017 (16 y/o)
“This song has so many ‘easter eggs’! (haha) A part of my story is that I was a barista for 5 years; during and after high school. Due to the fluctuating shifts, wide range of visitors, and various personalities within the work crew, I’ve found that there’s plenty of inspiration in a coffee shop. As a coffee maker (and lover), I’ve witnessed that many times we blame the caffeine for our boosts of energy or lack of clarity- jitters included. While working up the ladder at the coffee house, I learned a lot about growing up. From the positives of self-growth and mission-led work, to the lows of being deceived through others hate and greed. “My mind’s been soaked in a bag”, as a tea metaphor - “and my heart’s been ground up, poured into their glass”, a representation of making coffee and being figuratively poured out in the process. This song also showcases the deep irony of still loving a place you to stumbled into, and yet the undeniable need to be free from it. “Maybe half and half”, a representation of cream being poured into your mug, bittersweet. With no regrets, it was “a thrill or a chill”, but just a page in the story, “it was just the caffeine rush”.
